Commercial Success in Online Publishing:

Custom Access to Online Information Is the Key

Internet publishing pioneer OBS again breaks new ground. At the 48th Frankfurt Book Fair, OBS demonstrates its innovative publishing tools that enable publishers to make money by publishing on the Net. As can be seen in the Web sites created for publishers Springhouse and Gordon and Breach, OBS's custom-designed tools advance online publishing beyond marketing existing products and towards information-access licensing.

SciTech-publisher Gordon and Breach successfully uses OBS's online manuscript submission software to connect editors, authors, and production staff, thus accelerating and invigorating the publishing process. In the fast-paced special interest sector, leading the pack and publishing peer-reviewed abstracts in advance of the print product mean gaining the crucial competitive advantage over other journal publishers.

Springhouse, one of the largest medical publishers in the United States profitably sells access to interactive online tests in continuing education to nurses and medical personnel. The system uses QStats, a publisher-controlled site-tracking technology developed by OBS, to market information about its flourishing online audience to advertisers. Additionally, sales for Springhouse print products have increased since the site was launched this Spring.

OBS's new custom software enables publishers to profitably publish their own kinetic content online -- from their desktops. Veteran online publisher, OBS works with client publishers to define their unique commercial strategy -- and then builds a set of dynamic interactive tools to implement this strategy, leveraging on each client's current resources.

From content acquisition (as seen in the OBS software for the world's first Internet Rights Auction here at Frankfurt), to real-time site-updating software, QStats hit tracking software, and immediate online credit card clearance for the sale of information, OBS has put the tools to manage all online publishing operations right back where they belong: in the hands of the publishers.

Starting October 2, these successful publishing sites and the profit-enhancing publishing software behind them can be test-driven at the OBS booth at Frankfurt Book Fair, Halle 4.0, Stand B1104. Hourly demonstrations are offered, featuring OBS Tools for Readers and OBS Tools for Publishers.
