Vegetarian Bus Driver's Revolt

According to the Los Angeles Times, a bus driver for the Orange County Transportation Authority was suspended last week for refusing to hand out free coupons for hamburgers. Bruce Anderson, a vegetarian, was asked by his superviser to give the coupons to passengers as an inducement for riding the buses in Costa Mesa and leaving their cars at home. Anderson said no.

Anderson told a reporter, "I told [my supervisor] I don't eat dead cows, and no one else needs to, either." Transportation authorities suspended him indefinitely without pay. He was scheduled for a hearing as, meanwhile, support for his cause developed among local vegetarians and animal-rights advocates.
