Back to Church

Russian church
The revival of the Russian Orthodox Church is one of the big stories of the post-Communist era. Savagely suppressed throughout the entire 74 years of Communist rule, the church has rapidly regained a powerful position in Russian society. Russian Orthodoxy is so strong today that all the major presidential candidates -- including the Communist, Gennady Zyuganov -- lay claim to representing the traditions of the church.

Perhaps, as the faithful have pondered their choices in the presidental election, they may have prayed for guidance in terms inspired by the prayer of Philaret, Patriarch of Moscow.
