Chinese Beliefs

Mao Ze-dong
Mao Ze-dong
The ruling ideology of the People's Republic of China is based on the nineteenth-century ideas of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, as developed further by V.I. Lenin and the Chinese revolutionary leader Mao Ze-dong, who led the Chinese Communists to power in 1949.

Marxism/Leninism/Maoism has always been in a love-hate relationship with traditional Chinese belief systems, which remain strong among many Chinese citizens. Scholars of Chinese Marxism have pointed out elements of Confucianism and Taoism that have crept into the official ideology. And now, it appears that the ideological system that forms the basis of current-day Chinese authority has also incorporated certain concepts from capitalism.
