Press On, with Hope

In both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible there are many references to grief, tribulation, and afflictions of the body, heart, and soul. Always there is a message of hope and consolation: "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes." (Revelation 7:17, KJV).

The hunt for the perpetrator of the Atlanta bombing must go on, and we hope the guilty party will be found and punished. In the meantime, life must go on. We must believe that the world, even in the wake of the TWA and Atlanta tragedies, is not a place of madness and insecurity.

Perhaps we can find inspiration for carrying on, with hope and optimism, in the Book of Job, a story of a man whose personal afflictions gave him every right to give up hope -- and yet he did not.
