IMHO, one of the most remarkable aspects of the Web -- and of the Internet as a whole -- is the leveling effect it provides for small businesses.
At this point, at least, sheer marketing budget volume alone does little to provide a competitive advantage in a medium that rewards ingenuity (and maybe a little design sense) not repetition and size.
I'm sure this will change, and General Motors and Coca-Cola will find a way to crush us litle guys <g>, but for now we're on equal footing...and it feels great!
